One things for sure, when you do any type of digital marketing, you have to be prepared for change. The networks are always adding, inventing, or improving features. This week, Instagram tops the charts with the best social media news…
What’s New on Instagram
First, and with this one, you’ll say, “It’s about time!”! Now, you can post to Instagram via the desktop! Simply log into your Instagram account and you’ll see the “+” in the menu at the upper right…
Then, just follow the steps…
Finally, go through the same steps as if you were on a mobile device. You can edit the picture, add a fancy filter, then write your caption. Here’s where your keywords and hashtags come in. You have 2,200 characters in your caption where within, you can include up to 30 hashtags. Consequently, it’s important to know what hashtags your target market follows and which will attract their attention the best.
Remember, links don’t work in Instagram captions on posts and reels — yet. You never know if they’ll add that feature in the future. Which brings me to the next new feature.
Add Links to Instagram Stories
Slowly but surely Instagram is catching up with the features that we marketers need. In case you were not aware, Instagram Stories have high visibility…
The reach of Instagram stories is significant, though the company hasn’t revealed updated numbers in a few years.
Instagram last reported in 2019 that stories are viewed by 500 million users per day.
That number was up 100 million users from the year before, so it’s fair to assume several hundred million more users are viewing stories since the last official count.Search Engine Journal
Unfortunately, posting to stories is still only available on the mobile app. But it’s easy!
After you select your image to add to Stories, click on the Stickers icon and look for “Link”.
Go copy the link from the website, then paste it in the Link Sticker. Done.
The ability to add a link to a story used to be only for influencers and folks with high follower counts. Now, it’s available to everyone! However, be aware that if your account is really new, you may not have this feature yet. For a new business account, your first goal is to get 100 followers. Then, you’ll get Insights and Analytics on your followers, like what time of day they are on. This is very useful information to know when to post to get the most visibility.
As always, you can use a 3rd party tool like HootSuite or Buffer to schedule out posts as part of a well, planned-out social media marketing strategy, but it’s nice to know that these features are available for you to take advantage of them.
