Plan Ahead: What will be Trending in January on Social Media

What will be trending in January 2024?

Besides, the on-going, never-ending hot-news topics, here are some January Awareness and Observance Days that will probably be trending on X (formerly Twitter).

You can also expect anything dealing with weight loss and new year’s resolutions, goal setting, etc. to be trending.

Plan ahead and spin your marketing message around the hashtags. Remember, hashtags only work with letters and numbers. There are no apostrophes (‘) or symbols.

These are just some of the “holidays”. For the full list, visit these sites:

Aside from the ones listed bellow, expect #NewYear2024, #HappyNewYear2024 and other variations to be trending. Be aware that you can’t hashtag just numbers — #2024 — it doesn’t work. You have to put some letters along with the numbers. Also, any hashtag like #2024Hope, #2024Inspiration, etc. will work with your marketing. Remember, when putting several words together in a hashtag, capitalize the first letter of each word. Though hashtags are not case sensitive, it’s easier for the human eye to read when each word is capitalized.

Month observances usually are trending the first day of the month, but is OK to use throughout the month. Awareness weeks mostly are trending the first day or two of the week, but again, it’s OK to use it during the whole week. Days trend early in the morning, but will be OK to use throughout the day.

The idea is to take advantage when it’s trending to get maximum exposure.

Did you know the history of “Janurary”?

Around 700 B.C., January replaced March as the first month of the year. Roman king Numa Pompilius revised the calendar and added two months to it. However, many religions continued to celebrate the new year either on March 25th or December 25th according to their church calendars. Even the Julian calendar did not indicate a clear beginning and end to the year. Then in 1582, Pope Gregory developed the Gregorian calendar and most of the world came around to January 1 being the beginning of the New Year.

Janus is the Roman god of beginnings and endings. He’s a protector of gates, doorways, and transitions. January takes its name from this tow-headed god, and it makes us wonder why it took so long to celebrate the new year in January, but it did.
