Video Testimonials – A Great Digital Marketing Tool

video testimonials

Video is hot! People are more likely to sit and watch a video than to read an article. Don’t get me wrong. I’m a staunch advocate of blogging — it provides the Google search engine with the fresh, relevant content it’s looking for. But video testimonials can easily work with blogs and social media to promote any business. The best spokespeople are happy-camper customers.

Here’s a perfect example by Dr. Daniel Amen posted to YouTube. It’s a simple video testimonial of a satisfied client.

Notice the clear and simple branding on the lower, left-hand corner and in the upper right. That one is in the YouTube In-video programming where you can upload your logo and it will automatically appear on all the videos you upload.

There’s a nice a call to action at the end. You have to tell people what you want them to do, otherwise they won’t do it.

This video was directly uploaded to their Facebook fan page. I saw it because I like Dr. Amen’s page some time ago. This video should also be on YouTube, and uploaded to Instagram and LinkedIn.

All testimonials help. Most people will check out reviews and recommendations from satisfied customers. Also, don’t forget LinkedIn. Connect with your customers and clients and request recommendations from them. This helps with trust and credibility.

Ask them to recommend you on Google and Facebook, too — especially in your emails.

User-Generated Content – another form of Video Testimonials

user-generated content on Instagram - UCG

The next best thing is User-Generated Content (UCG)! Obviously, this is when a happy-camper customer loves your product or service so much that they’ll do a video showing them wearing your clothing or jewelry or using your product or service. Then they post it on THEIR social media accounts tagging (mentioning) your business! That way, their friends and followers see it.

You can encourage this in your “Thank You” emails. Give them a unique hashtag to use and your username on the various networks. Make it easy for them to do it! Naturally, not all UCG will be videos, but pictures work, too!

For example, check out this image from LovePop cards on Instagram. Note the hashtag. When a customer posts a UCG and tags you, you get notified. You also can monitor your hashtag to see which posts have it, save them, and re-post them. If they use your hashtag, that gives you permission to use their posts, videos or images for your marketing.
