I was recently asked this question on Quora: “What’s the Best Time to Post on Social Media?” What’s the answer?
It depends on your target audience — who they are and where they’re located.
Who is your target audience on social media?
Each social media network is different as are their users and why they’re on it.
For instance, LinkedIn is mostly business, so you’ll get the most exposure during the day, during the week. You also need to consider…
- Time zones
- Age
- Occupation
- Business or pleasure?
You can try to go with what “experts” say, but in the end, your audience will tell you.
To Determine What is the Best Time for YOU to Post on Social Media…
- Clearly identify your target market(s) and your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)
- Create persona(s)
- Research your target markets and get to know them – I remember one gal that took a class of mine said that the best time to reach her target was between 1-3 pm, Fridays on LinkedIn.
- Create and curate content, then build a following and relationships — you’ll need followers in each network to start gathering data.
- I love the scheduling tool Sendible. They provide the best time to post based on your followers. Since each network is different, if you know this data, you can use their tool to schedule out posts at the most optimal time. That way, you get more exposure.
A lot of this is trial and error in the beginning.
Depending on how many followers you have, you need to schedule posts during each day. Obviously, you want to keep your brand and messaging top of mind. What’s nice about Sendible is that you can set posts to repeat daily, every 3 or 4 days, weekly, and monthly. Thus, saving a lot of time.

Here’s a list on how many posts you can do per day on the main social networks.
- Twitter: 5-10 posts daily
- Facebook: 3-5 daily
- Instagram: 5-10 daily
- LinkedIn: 3-5 daily
- Pinterest: no limit
10-4-1 Guideline — out of every 15 posts…
- 10 should be other people’s relevant content
- 4 should be your original content
- 1 should be a promotional post
Check Your Analytics!
At the end of each month review your Google Analytics to see which network brought in the most visitors to your website. Then, focus more time on those.
Sendibile also provides great reporting on all the networks you’re using, but it will also give your a report on each individually. This is invaluable!
